The 14KG Gold-Filled bracelets/necklace pieces can still tarnish, but it takes particular circumstances for that to happen. Pure gold doesn’t tarnish, so even though it’s an alloy, the thick layer of pure gold on gold-filled pieces helps to prevent tarnishing. Remember that everyone’s skin can react differently to different things; the same goes with the beads. The metals can also respond differently once in contact with your skin and certain oils, chemicals, and perfumes.

Sterling Silver can naturally tarnish with oils and the acid in your skin. Wearing them in chlorine and exposing them to other chemicals will expedite the oxidation in Sterling Silver.

However, with all that said, I wear my in the shower, while working out, in the ocean, the pool, sleeping, and everything else in between, and mine have held up perfect for 2+ years (one or two has been restrung because it stretched out). But other than that, they have been excellent!

Like anything elastic, they can and will eventually stretch out if pulled on it enough. Most of the bracelets only stretch enough to get them on and off. We recommend you “roll” them on and off your wrist.

There is a big difference between “gold filled” and gold plated.” It’s good to know the difference, so you know what to shop for and where to spend your money. The Bottom line is you’re going to pay a little more for gold-filled jewelry, but it will stand the test of time, and in my opinion, it’s well worth it. Here’s why:

Gold-filled is NOT the same as Gold-plated. Not only are their manufacturing processes EXTREMELY DIFFERENT, but the amount of gold alloy used on gold-filled pieces is different than gold-plated.

The layer of gold alloy on gold-plated jewelry is so minuscule that all it would take is one small scratch on a gold-plated piece to expose the jeweler’s brass underneath.

Gold-filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy than gold plated, and because that layer is thicker, it means gold-filled jewelry lasts longer and stands up to wear and tear better than gold plated.

However, the longevity of either type is dependent on the wear, environment, and quality of the piece.

As long as the piece is well cared for, gold-filled jewelry can last a lifetime. Gold plated jewelry is not very durable and can’t withstand much heat, water, or wear.

Gold-filled jewelry is best used where longevity and durability are a must. Gifts for anniversaries, birthdays, and other events are more meaningful when the piece is meant to last decades. Another such occasion is when a piece is worn daily – a gold-plated piece would last mere months if worn daily.

If heavy pressure is applied or you yank or pull on them, this could cause your piece to break.

Lotions and perfumes can be damaging to your piece as well.

Even though the metal beads I use are Gold-Filled, Sterling Silver and Rose Gold should not tarnish; you must keep them clean. I recommend Hagerty Jewelry Cleaner, which you can purchase off Amazon. Also, be aware many things can cause beads to turn randomly. Especially Sterling Silver. Every single piece is hand made to order. We ask you to please allow 1-4 weeks to receive your custom piece once your order is placed. I would recommend starting with a classic stack of “Just the beads” you can choose between gold-filled, sterling silver, or rose gold. If you are looking for more of a softer, simple stack, we recommend a stack of the 2mm, 3mm, and 4mm bead bracelets, and if you want more of a bolder/chunkier look, we recommend stacking 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm bead bracelets together.

If you want to go ahead and start with a customizable wrist-reminder. I recommend the White beads w/ Black letters, the Clear beads w/ White letters, or the Black beads w/White letters (these are the most popular bead letter colors) As far as the most popular bead sizes go for the customizable wrist reminders, the 3mm and the 4mm bead sizes are the most popular.
